Creating the brand identity for Wales’ newest training centre for clergy and lay leaders
St Padarn’s Institute/Athrofa Padarn Sant was set up by the Church in Wales to train and equip its clergy and lay leaders for services in today’s communities.
Its vision was for a modern, outward-looking institution that would appeal to potential students and equip them not only for today, but for tomorrow’s challenges. They therefore required a brand identity that clearly identified that aim, and reflected the specific sector they were working in. What was required was the right balance of gravitas and freshness.
As per our usual way of working, we discussed and fully defined the brief and then presented a range of possible marks for consideration. The result was an overwhelming yes to our favourite: the distinctive P which resonated strongly, having both religious connotations of a crook and a modern illuminated letter. The identity has since been implemented across a range of digital, printed and promotional materials.
